As a Registered Veterinary Technician and aspiring dog behaviorist, April K. is passionate about the work of the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC), where she serves as a foster parent and volunteer. In December 2019, April offered to foster a recent graduate—rescued dog Binney—from the program.

In mid-April, as New York City was just three weeks into its COVID-19 shutdown, Officer Chris Tansey of NYPD’s 48th Precinct followed up on a report that several pit bulls had been abandoned in the basement of a building in the Bronx. There, they found several dogs in unsanitary conditions.

It was a typical, warm July fourth evening in Los Angeles County with sporadic fireworks popping overhead.
Spooked by the noise, Princess, a 10-year-old Shih Tzu, bolted from her Baldwin Park home and fled into the night.
