When Danielle G. left her house in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to run a quick errand on February 5, she left her two-year-old chocolate Beagle, Daisy, at home.

But when Danielle returned less than a half-hour later, she knew immediately that something wasn’t right.

“I had given Daisy a duck-flavored calming treat from a new jar right before I left,” Danielle says. “I put the lid back on and put them on the kitchen island. When I got home, the jar was on the living room floor with the plastic lid popped off, and all but a few of the treats were gone.”

The ASPCA’s ongoing work to stop the horrific cruelty of animal fighting is multi-faceted. Through our efforts supporting law enforcement, prosecutors, and veterinarians to combat this crime, we know firsthand that rescuing victims from animal fighting is just the first step in a long journey toward rehabilitation. Unfortunately, in federal animal-fighting cases, this journey can involve months-long stays for animals in shelters.

It’s been a long week, which means it’s time to kick back and relax this weekend. Not to mention, National Napping Day is on Monday, and it looks like our sleepy furry friends below are way ahead of us! Just looking at them has us itching to veg out on the couch all weekend long.
