During National Volunteer Week, the ASPCA is proud to recognize our amazing District Captains! Our District Captains are high-level advocates who have taken their advocacy further as they work to make a positive difference for animals. These super-volunteers ideally live in congressional districts that are especially crucial to our legislative priorities (a shifting landscape, to be sure), and come from a variety of backgrounds.

Sacramento, CA – Local and national animal welfare organizations today commend California Gov. Jerry Brown for signing into law legislation that will prevent the sale of commercially raised dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores across the state of California. The law also encourages partnerships that promote the adoption of homeless pets.

NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and a broad spectrum of public interest groups today welcomed the defeat of all 11 ag-gag/anti-whistleblower bills that were introduced during 2013 legislative sessions across the country. North Carolina’s session ended on Friday without a vote on Senate Bill (SB) 648, which would have suppressed whistleblower investigations at farms and other facilities.
