Great news: Nearly 700 cats and dogs rescued by the ASPCA in January are ready to find loving homes! The animals were suffering from severe neglect at the site of an unlicensed, 122-acre facility in Raeford, North Carolina. Over the past several weeks at the ASPCA’s temporary shelter, they have received much-needed medical attention and behavioral care to prepare them for adoption.

Many of you have heard about our record-breaking rescue in North Carolina last week, where nearly 700 animals were saved from severe neglect. Over 100 ASPCA responders removed more than 340 dogs and 280 cats—as well as horses, pigs and birds—from the sprawling, dilapidated property, a self-described “animal sanctuary” in Raeford. It was a heartbreaking scene, but thankfully, these animals are now receiving much-needed attention and care in a secure ASPCA-run facility.

UPDATE: We are excited to share that after months of medical care, 50 dogs rescued from a puppy mill in Mio, Michigan, in December are ready to find loving homes. The ASPCA rescued the dogs alongside the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Department following complaints of abuse and neglect at the facility, and the owners of the puppy mill pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges last week.

At the ASPCA, we know that 2016 will be a great year—after all, it’s our 150th anniversary. But before we start celebrating a century-and-a-half of amazing work on behalf of abused, abandoned and neglected animals, we want to take a look back at some of the milestones we reached in 2015. Here’s a look at some of the animals rescued, homes created and lives saved in this banner year.
