The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), The Humane Society of the United States and Best Friends Animal Society are calling on the Department of Agriculture to abolish a newly proposed tax on nonprofit animal shelters and rescue organizations in Missouri. Under these regulations nonprofit animal shelters and rescue organizations would be required to pay the same fees and taxes as for-profit, large-scale, commercial breeding facilities.

NEW YORK--The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), at the request of the Garland County Sheriff's Office, has spent the past three days managing the medical triage and sheltering of 175 dogs removed from a puppy mill facility on November 7 in Hot Springs, Ark. The animals are currently housed at an emergency shelter where veterinary and sheltering teams, led by ASPCA medical director Dr. Rhonda Windham, are assessing, diagnosing, treating and providing enrichment for the dogs.
NEW YORK--The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today confirmed, through the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office in Marshall County, Miss., that two Mississippi residents--John and Nancy Garrison--pleaded guilty to one count each of the 97 cases of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in connection to the February 4, 2010, puppy mill raid where the ASPCA managed the investigation and rescue of more than 100 dogs.
NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), through its Shelter Response Partnership network, is transporting 136 dogs from Rowan County, Ky., to various rescue groups throughout the Midwest and Northeast following the October 2011 puppy mill investigation led by the Rowan County Attorney’s Office in Morehead, Ky., approximately 65 miles east of Lexington. The puppy mill operator, Patricia Blevins, pleaded guilty earlier this month to two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and one count of kennel violation.
