California Becomes First State in U.S. to Ban Sale of Puppy Mill Dogs in Pet Stores
Sacramento, CA – Local and national animal welfare organizations today commend California Gov. Jerry Brown for signing into law legislation that will prevent the sale of commercially raised dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores across the state of California. The law also encourages partnerships that promote the adoption of homeless pets.
ASPCA Helps to Rescue More than 100 Dogs from FL Puppy Mill

The ASPCA is on the ground in Clewiston, Florida, assisting with the removal, evidence collection, sheltering and medical care of more than 100 dogs from a substandard, unlicensed breeding facility believed to be a puppy mill. The dogs were being sold to pet stores in the Miami-Dade area. An investigation of the facility began after several complaints were made by individuals in the community, and the ASPCA stepped in to help at the request of the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office.

ASPCA Manages Rescue, Transfer of Dogs from Missouri Puppy Mill

ASPCA Field Investigation Responders on Scene in Bay Springs, Miss. to Assist in Seizure of Dogs
Bay Springs, Miss – The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), under the authority and request of the Jasper County (Miss.) Sheriff’s Department and local animal welfare authorities, has dispatched its field investigations and response team to assist in the removal of nearly 50 dogs and collect evidence in the investigation of a Bay Springs breeder.
The ASPCA is also working with local authorities to establish a temporary shelter for the dogs, which include Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, cocker spaniels, basset hounds, and other breeds.
