During National Volunteer Week, the ASPCA is proud to recognize our amazing District Captains! Our District Captains are high-level advocates who have taken their advocacy further as they work to make a positive difference for animals. These super-volunteers ideally live in congressional districts that are especially crucial to our legislative priorities (a shifting landscape, to be sure), and come from a variety of backgrounds.

A key principle of the ASPCA’s work to improve the lives of farm animals is a commitment to help farmers obtain technical and financial resources to improve their animals’ welfare. Agricultural subsidies and grant programs are largely set up to support conventional farming practices, leaving the more humane and responsible farmers at a severe disadvantage in the marketplace.

Can’t find higher-welfare animal products in your favorite local supermarkets and pet food stores?
Show businesses that there’s a demand for more humanely produced food: If you don’t find welfare-certified or plant-based alternatives where you shop or eat, the best thing you can do is ask for them.
