We all know that physical abuse and extreme neglect constitute cruelty to animals—but one little-discussed form of cruelty is abandonment. Though it seems less dramatic than other violations, abandonment is indeed cruelty—and its consequences can be just as dire. Q. When is a paper plate not just a paper plate?
A. When it’s a make-shift E-collar for kittens who’ve just been spayed or neutered! Time- and money-savers, paper plates are great for use in foster homes, where you may not always have access to E-collars (especially late at night!), and can be used in shelter clinics when a quick E-collar is called for.

The ASPCA and the New York City Police Department are reporting significant progress in the fight against animal cruelty since January 1, when the NYPD took the lead role in responding to all animal cruelty complaints in NYC and the ASPCA expanded its direct care support for its victims.
Through June 30, there were 70 arrests and nearly 200 animals rescued and treated by the ASPCA, an increase of nearly 160% and 180%, respectively, over the same period last year.

The King has found his castle.
King, the one-year-old male feline who survived a vicious kick in Brooklyn, was adopted by Chris Scordo of Manhattan, who by chance saw a recent story about him in the Daily News.

Why should kittens have all the fun? Here at the ASPCA, we’re huge fans of senior cats. We find that cats who have been around the block a few times are often wiser than their younger counterparts, and just as fun to have around. When you choose to adopt a senior cat, it’s very likely that he or she will already be litter box-trained and will provide low-key feline companionship. June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, and we hope you’ll consider adopting an older cat.
