ASPCA Happy Tails: A Second Chance for Leroy

One of the realities of animal adoption is that not every animal fits in to every family. Every now and then, despite our best efforts, an animal will be returned after adoption. Such was the case with Leroy, a sweet gray kitty who spent nine months with a family before being brought back to our Adoption Center. But we never give up on an animal, and luckily for Leroy, the perfect couple came along and proved that sometimes, it takes two chances to find your one forever home. Here is Leroy’s Happy Tail.

This Weekend: ASPCA’s Mega Match-a-thon Adoption Events Presented by Subaru

It’s time to meet your match, people—your four-legged match! Once again the ASPCA is teaming up with dozens of animal shelters across the country for the third-annual ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon, presented by Subaru. This weekend (October 17-19), more than 100 animal rescues across the country are joining forces to co-host some epic adoption events. We chipped in more than $220,000 in grants, made possible by Subaru as part of our participation in the Subaru “Share the Love” event last year, to help make it happen.

Nine Wisconsin Hoarding Dogs Are Ready For Forever Homes

On September 18, the ASPCA Field Investigations and Response Team assisted in the rescue of over a dozen dogs from a poorly ventilated mobile home in Madison, Wisconsin. The dogs were found living amongst feces, trash, and rotting food, and many exhibited signs of dehydration and neglect.

ASPCA Happy Tails: Finch Finds a Family

For a first-time pet owner, animal adoption can be a daunting experience. New routines, new supplies, and a whole new lifestyle often come with a pet, and for someone like Aidan B., it can be a big adjustment. Fortunately, this first-time dog-dad had two things going for him: a girlfriend who grew up with dogs, and a new three-legged companion to show him just how fantastic pets can be. Here is the Happy Tail of Aidan, Julie, and a beagle named Finch.

Overcoming the Challenge of Animal Homelessness

Renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead once famously said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Mead was talking about improving the world for humans, but it’s just as relevant and accurate when we talk about improving the world for animals.
