Animal Cruelty

As many of you know, the ASPCA is currently in the third year of a groundbreaking partnership with the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Through this collaboration with law enforcement, we have been able to help rescue more animal victims of neglect and cruelty than ever before.

Great news: Nearly 700 cats and dogs rescued by the ASPCA in January are ready to find loving homes! The animals were suffering from severe neglect at the site of an unlicensed, 122-acre facility in Raeford, North Carolina. Over the past several weeks at the ASPCA’s temporary shelter, they have received much-needed medical attention and behavioral care to prepare them for adoption.

When two animals are bonded, it means that they rely on each other and must find a home together. It also means that we must work doubly-hard to find them an adopter (who is willing to provide twice the love). Fortunately, in the case of kittens Alba and Abe, eight paws, two noses and countless whiskers is just what one person was looking for! Here is their Happy Tail.

One of the ASPCA’s primary areas of focus is animal placement—more specifically, keeping animals in homes. Through safety net programs, community initiatives and education and awareness campaigns, we work hard to do whatever it takes to prevent animals from being unnecessarily surrendered to shelters.
