2025 Annual Report
The mission of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States. Since 1866, we’ve been on the front lines to save, transform and protect millions of lives in the fight against animal cruelty.
The ASPCA advances this work through direct care, lifesaving response, national partnerships, advocacy, and strategic initiatives that strengthen animal welfare systems across the country. Across every program area, our work reflects a clear and urgent purpose: preventing cruelty, reducing suffering and helping more animals live safely with the care they need.
This annual report provides a snapshot of the ASPCA’s work and impact in 2025.
From Our President and CEO
Together with our staff, partners, volunteers and supporters, we turned compassion into action. We helped over 70,000 animals find safe, loving homes, responded to disasters and emergencies affecting more than 20,000 animals, supported hundreds of shelters and rescue organizations through grants and partnerships, and helped provide more than 2 million meals to animals in need.
While these numbers reflect the scale of our work, they only tell part of the story. Behind each data point is an animal whose life was transformed, a family kept together or a community supported.
The year marked significant progress in reaching more animals with essential care. We performed nearly 80,000 free or low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and enabled partners nationwide to provide 50,000 more — helping prevent unwanted litters and keeping more animals healthy. We also fought to remove the barriers that keep pets from getting the medical care they need, and we deepened partnerships with shelters and communities from coast to coast, invested in lifesaving resources and continued building a stronger, more connected animal welfare field.
At the same time, we remained ready to respond when animals faced their greatest challenges. Whether rescuing victims of suspected cruelty, helping communities recover from disasters, helping dogs who were victims of abuse and neglect at the new ASPCA Recovery & Rehabilitation Center or supporting kittens, horses and other animals in need, our teams worked every day to deliver meaningful results and lasting change.
None of this happens alone. The ASPCA's impact is made possible by people like you who share our belief that every animal deserves safety, care and compassion. Your generosity, dedication and partnership make this work possible, allowing us to respond to urgent needs today while investing in long-term solutions for the future.
As you read this report, you'll see examples of what can happen when people come together on behalf of animals. Thank you for standing with the ASPCA and making this work possible. Together, we are creating a better world for animals.

Ensuring Safe and Healthy Environments for Animals

Every animal deserves a safe environment that supports their physical health, emotional wellbeing and ability to thrive. In 2025, the ASPCA helped more than 70,000 animals find safe, loving homes through adoption, relocation and placement support; assisted more than 20,000 animals affected by disasters, emergencies and suspected cruelty; supported close to 1,000 shelters and rescue organizations with more than $23 million in grant funding; and helped provide more than 2 million meals to animals in need.
Expanding Access to Veterinary Care in 2025

Veterinary and behavioral care services are essential to keeping animals healthy and families together, yet cost, geography and other barriers can put that care out of reach. Through our Community Veterinary Clinics in New York City, Los Angeles and Miami, mobile veterinary clinics and the ASPCA Animal Hospital in New York City, we provided accessible veterinary care ranging from vaccines, wellness services and spay/neuter surgeries to critical care for animals with life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
Protecting Animals from Cruelty and Mistreatment

The ASPCA protects animals from abuse, neglect, exploitation and suffering through rescue, rehabilitation, advocacy, forensic science, legal support and education. In 2025, we supported more than 1,300 animals from suspected cruelty cases involving abuse, neglect, hoarding and organized fighting. We also conducted more than 600 forensic examinations at the ASPCA Veterinary Forensic Science Center in Gainesville, Florida — the first U.S. forensic laboratory dedicated to animal cruelty casework. We provided legal support in more than 500 suspected animal cruelty and fighting cases nationwide and engaged thousands of professionals through educational resources focused on recognizing cruelty, enforcing laws and supporting prosecution efforts.
Advancing Animal Welfare and Strengthening Local Capacity

The ASPCA partners with shelters, rescues, veterinary providers, policymakers, farmers, food companies and communities nationwide to improve outcomes for animals and strengthen local systems of care. Through grantmaking, educational resources, data, research, relocation, advocacy and hands-on support, we help partners save and improve animals’ lives while building sustainable, community-based solutions for the future.
