Gem is just that—a gem! This handsome long-haired boy takes time warming up to unfamiliar people and places and will likely be fearful and hide during the first few weeks in his new home. But, don’t let the shy exterior fool you! Once Gem starts feeling comfortable, he begins showing his true self—a playful, fun-loving guy that enjoys some good scratches! Gem loves pets in short doses and on his terms, and he’s always sure to let you know when he’d like some. According to Gem’s foster caregiver, he comes up and headbutts her to let her know he’s ready for some loving! Sometimes a lot of affection can be a little too much for Gem, and he isn’t shy about voicing his thoughts. Gem is also a huge fan of playtime! This guy is an expert at turning anything into a toy, but worm wands, mouse wands and rainbow mice are his absolute favorite—his foster even plans to send these with him to his new home! The only thing that may make playtime better is if there’s another cat involved. Gem feels much more confident around friends who speak his language. In his foster home, Gem took a particular liking to one of his kitty roommates and could often be found lounging next to him or playing chase.

Gem is looking for a quiet, adults-only home with another social, adult cat. His adopter should understand that he will likely be very nervous for the first few weeks and that letting Gem take things at his own pace is important. Interested in adopting Gem? Fill out our Cat Adoption Survey!
