We’re delighted to announce our grantee selections from the 2025 Fund to End Factory Farming. This is the fourth consecutive year we have sought innovative projects countering factory farming.

The Fund to End Factory Farming was created to recognize and fund new approaches to reduce factory farming, repair its damage to U.S. communities and drive more sustainable, just and humane food systems.

Factory farming sustains itself on the backs of animals, farmers, laborers, communities and the environment. In turn, reducing industrial animal agriculture helps transform the farming system to benefit all those impacted.

This year’s fund was bolstered through partnership with Socially Responsible Agriculture Project (SRAP) — an organization that supports farmers, residents and communities resisting factory farming’s detrimental influence on their lives. Reflecting this critical approach, 2025’s Fund to End Factory Farming invited applications from local and regional organizations responding to the presence of factory farming and its damage to their communities.

We were heartened by the large number of powerful applications we received, and we were able to offer $160,305 in grant funding for seven critical projects:

CleanAIRE NC (North Carolina)

Air testing, data mapping and community training to counter poultry pollution in Robeson County, North Carolina, which has a heavy factory farming presence and the state’s worst-ranked health.

Cape Fear River Watch (North Carolina)

Test, map and document the abundance of poultry litter pollution in North Carolina to increase public education and regulations protecting communities.

The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement + Jefferson County Farmers & Neighbors, Inc. (Iowa)

By using the power of storytelling, reveal how Iowa’s inadequate enforcement actions on factory farm violations contribute to Iowa’s poor water quality and recommend strategies for protecting public health based on these revelations.

Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (Illinois)

Through its Illinois Livestock Reform Coalition, develop materials to support stakeholders championing more humane, community-centered alternatives to factory farming.

Midwest Environmental Advocates (Wisconsin)

Launch a multimedia communications campaign showcasing rural communities’ power to stand up to industrial agriculture.

Missouri River Bird Observatory (Missouri)

Develop public resources, dashboards and story maps for empowering communities. Resources include tracking Missouri watersheds that are sensitive to factory farm pollution while featuring related geographic data points highlighting social vulnerability.

Land Stewardship Project (Minnesota)

Share stories of Minnesota workers and farmers, as told in their own voices, about the harms of factory farming to galvanize support for policy change in Minnesota.

Congratulations to our grantees!
