As the New Year begins, one of your resolutions may be to get active on the issues that matter to you. Not sure where to start? Here are five easy ways that animal lovers like you can make a big difference for farm animals in 2018.

1.       Pledge to Shop With Your Heart

Every time you buy food, you’re casting a vote for how billions of chickens, pigs and cows are treated. Pledge to Shop With Your Heart in 2018 and get all of the resources you need to find food that doesn’t come from inhumane factory farms.

2.       Try More Plant-Based

By eating more plant-based foods, you can reduce the demand for factory farmed products. Simply giving up meat one day a week for a year would spare 28 animals from cruel conditions on factory farms, and let the industry know that consumers care about animal welfare. Learn more about plant-based eating here.

3.       Help Us Open the Barns

As undercover investigations make more people aware of the gruesome way that most animals are  raised for food, the agriculture industry is pushing back by attempting to pass anti-transparency laws, including “ag-gag” laws, which seek to cover up this cruelty and punish whistleblowers. Learn where your state stands on ag-gag then help us #OpenTheBarns to ensure that animal suffering isn’t hidden behind closed doors.

4.       Join the Advocacy Brigade

The ASPCA is fighting to improve the lives of farm animals on many fronts, from state campaigns like the California ballot initiative to federal action on the USDA Organic animal welfare rule. Join the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade to stay up to date on farm animal welfare issues and get alerts when we need your help.

5.       Spread the Word

The easiest way to amplify your impact on farm animals is to share resources and news with your social networks and encourage them to do the same! Check out and share our #ShopWithYourHeart resources today.
