The ASPCA operates two full-time Spay/Neuter Clinics for animal rescue professionals in New York City. These clinics provide much needed, high quality spay/neuter services to homeless dogs and cats being cared for by rescue groups, humane organizations, foster networks and the TNR community. Both stationary spay/neuter facilities are outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment and staffed with highly trained and licensed medical personnel. The fees for services are heavily subsidized which results in very low costs. Animals can be brought directly to a clinic by a registered rescuer or take advantage of our transport program. Appointments are required to use both facilities, as well as a current signed ASPCA Terms of Use Agreement. Scroll down to review additional qualifications.

Owned pets are not accepted at our stationary clinics. If you are a resident of New York City and are in need of spay/neuter services for your pet, click here to access our Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic calendar.

The ASPCA's clinics work in tandem with our transport service, which provides fully subsidized rides for spay/neuter candidates including feral cats and qualified animals from local rescue groups and humane organizations. Our climate-controlled vehicles were specifically designed to provide safe and comfortable transport for dogs, cats and community cats in traps.

Requirements

The ASPCA is proud to have cultivated relationships with over 1000 animal rescuers, groups and shelters in New York City. Animal rescuers are vital to the welfare of animals in New York City, and the ASPCA has tailored a program to accommodate the varying needs of rescuers and the animals they serve.

If you would like to become a registered rescuer with the ASPCA, please fulfill these two requirements:

  1. File a Terms of Use Agreement with the ASPCA: Sign in to the Rescuer Services Scheduler to review and sign the Terms of Use Agreement.
  2. If working with community cats in traps, you must be a Certified TNR Caretaker.
TNR certification workshops are offered online or in any of the five boroughs. Becoming TNR-certified not only provides you with information on how to trap safely, but also community relations, colony feeding and sheltering, and other issues are covered. Upon successful completion of the workshop, your contact information will be added to a TNR Certification List, which entitles you to use low-cost spay/neuter services with the ASPCA and other agencies in NYC. The ASPCA accepts TNR certification from the following agencies:
    • Alley Cat Allies / ASPCA / Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals
    • Neighborhood Cats
    • Humane Society of the United States (This online course is no longer offered, but certification from it is still accepted).
Once you are a registered rescuer with the ASPCA, you may make an appointment to bring eligible spay/neuter candidates directly to the Spay/Neuter Clinic or use our transport service through the RSS or by calling (877) SPAY-NYC (772-9692).

Call Center Hours of Operation:

Monday through Friday, 11:00 A.M.-8:00 P.M.
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays

Clinic Hours of Operation:

Admissions for self-transport is Tuesday - Saturday at 7:00 A.M.
Discharge for self-transport is Tuesday - Saturday at 5:00 P.M.

Equipment Rental Services

The ASPCA rents traps, dividers, and animal carriers to TNR certified animal rescuers who have a current ASPCA Terms of Use Agreement on file. Sign in to the Rescuer Services Scheduler to review and sign the Terms of Use Agreement.

  • Appointments for rentals and returns must be requested via the Rescuer Services Scheduler or e-mail. To schedule an appointment, sign into the RSS or contact the designated equipment rental line at: [email protected] If you schedule via email, please allow at least 2 business days for your request to be processed.

Rental and return appointments are available on the following days and times:

  • Sundays and Monday, 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
  • Tuesdays through Saturdays, 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M.

Once an appointment is set, the equipment can be picked up and returned at our offices in Glendale, Queens. The address will be provided in a confirmation e-mail and is on the RSS.

A $50 refundable deposit, payable in cash or check only, is required per trap or carrier. The deposit is fully refunded upon return of the equipment in its original condition, subject to normal wear and tear during your use.

Trap rental includes 2 dividers, regardless of the number of traps borrowed. The equipment may be kept for 14 days. We kindly request that all equipment is returned clean and in a timely manner.

Please refer to the NYC Feral Cat Initiative site for additional equipment resources in NYC.

Rescuers like you help save lives 365 days a year, and our new Rescuer Services Scheduler (RSS) is designed to help you use our spay/neuter, transportation and equipment rental services much more easily and conveniently. Listen to learn more about the scheduler.

RSS features allow you to:

  • Book, view, edit and cancel spay/neuter and transport appointments and equipment rental reservations online any time.
  • View appointment availability online in real time in case last-minute appointments are needed.

How It Works

Every rescuer, whether associated with a rescue organization or working independently, has an account where reservations can be scheduled and edited, where terms of use agreements can be e-signed, and more.

Every rescue organization also has an account, held by the authorized representative, for managing the list of rescuers and co-signing terms of use agreements.
