Salvador—lovingly referred to as Sal by ASPCA staff—is a big dude with a heart to match. Sal’s never met a person he doesn’t like—and no one who’s met Sal hasn’t liked him! He’s ready for an adopter who can take him to the dog park, rub his sides while he naps on the couch and provide some continued training. Could that be you?

Big fan of: People! Sal is one of those dogs who loves everyone he meets. Whether you’re a frequent visitor or a stranger, if you’ve got two hands that can give Sal some scratches you’ve also got a new best friend. Sal loves getting outside, stretching his legs and going for walks, too! The world is Sal’s oyster, and he thoroughly enjoys scoping out his surroundings with his nose. Because he loves getting out and about so much, Sal can often be found accompanying various ASPCA staff members for a quick stroll down the block to pick up coffee or lunch—and he’s always sure to be a “polite gentleman” while waiting outside the store. A dog with an active spirit, Sal loves to exercise—and he doesn’t limit his workouts to just walks! A trip to the dog park where he can romp around with other pups? Count Sal in! A long nap on the couch afterward is all but guaranteed.

Working on: Learning to leave sticks where they are. There’s just something about sticks that draws Sal in, and he’s usually tempted to pull or dart towards every one he walks by—and then is reluctant to give them up. Sal’s adopter will need to use lots of yummy treats to help teach Sal that the sticks will be okay even if he doesn’t pick them up and have them join him for the walk. Sal would also love to learn to remember to keep all four paws on the ground when excited—especially when it’s walk time!

Dream home: Sal is looking for an adopter who can give him the continued training he needs to become his best self! Based on what we know from Sal’s time in foster homes, his adopter will also need to be able to provide him with lots of exercise and enrichment to help keep Sal happy and healthy. He’s previously lived with well with a cat, and we think he would do well with a doggy friend, too—and maybe even kids! If you’re interested in adopting Sal, please fill out our Dog Adoption Survey.
