Whoever said good things come in small packages was right! Perlita is a very special, tiny lady. She’s been pretty overwhelmed during her stay at the ASPCA Adoption Center—but with the glimpses of sweetness and lovingness she’s shown us, we know there’s an affectionate pup in there. The right type of home would help Perlita blossom, and she hopes that home may be yours.

Big fan of: Cozying up! Every time you walk by Perlita’s kennel, you can bet she’s curled up in her big, fluffy bed with lots of soft blankets around her. Perlita is a shy gal who isn’t one to get up and greet or be social with people she doesn’t know—but, once you start to gain this little lady’s trust, she willingly trades in a spot in her bed for a spot in your lap! Perlita has made a few human friends at the shelter and enjoys letting her little, sweet personality shine with them—which comes along with a few cuddles, of course. Perlita is a true lap dog once you’re her trusted friend.

Working on: Her confidence! The first few months of a dog’s life is their most important socialization period, and Perlita likely did not get enough exposure to people or new, positive experiences during that time. Because of this, Perlita is rather fearful. The Adoption Center has been quite overwhelming for her, and while she has started to warm up to people, Perlita can most often be found cuddled in her crate, away from all the scary sights, sounds and things—so she needs someone who can help her overcome these fears.

Dream home: Perlita is looking for a home that’s just as special as her! Perlita needs to go to a household with teens and up and would prefer an adopter who lives in a quiet, low-traffic neighborhood and has some experience with shy dogs like her. Perlita’s adopter should understand that this girl will definitely need to take things at her own pace, and they should also be willing to work with a certified trainer to help her become more confident.
