Meeka is truly the definition of resilient. Judging from her cute-as-a-button face, you’d never know how much she’s been through—and now, she’s more than ready to find a comfy, loving home where she can live the life she so deserves!
Big fan of: Her people! Meeka understandably takes some time warming up to strangers but has been described as, “a sweetheart,” who’s “super affectionate and cuddly,” by the humans in her inner circle. Once she officially awards you the “friend” title—which is an honor to receive—this adorable little girl is happy to put her paws on you, lay her head on you, jump in your lap for love and snuggles and roll over to ask for belly rubs! And, even though she’s a tiny lady, Meeka has a big, playful personality. Pull out some toys and start the games, and Meeka is sure to be happy as a clam!
Working on: Her handling and confidence! In her previous home, Meeka was reported to not be a huge fan of having visitors over, barking at them and running towards them—and overall being very uncomfortable. At the ASPCA, Meeka has also not enjoyed being touched and handled in certain places by unfamiliar people. So, once she goes home, Meeka’s new family should understand that taking things at Meeka’s pace—which is slow—with handling and visitors is key! Meeka previously lived with other dogs, and while she’s been in the shelter, she’s sometimes shown some uncomfortable behavior with certain pups. She could live well with a calm dog, but she says no thanks to pushy pups!
Dream home: Meeka would be perfect for a person who’s excited to look past her little quirks, help her continue to blossom and love her for the sweet little lady she is! Her adopter should also know that she likely has a congenital disorder that causes giant platelets at a lower-than-normal number—so, Meeka should always be monitored for bruising or bleeding. With kids, because she is a bit of a sensitive soul, a home with older children would be the best fit for her. Cats would be new for this young lady, and if you have another dog our team would be happy to help with a dog-to-dog introduction!
