You have to meet Maverick! He’s handsome, fun and super smart—so, all in all, he’s a pretty great dog. Maverick would thrive in a home in a quiet area with a person who’s excited to help him learn a few more tricks! Could that be you?
Big fan of: Toys! Maverick is the type of guy who never says no to a squeaky toy. Whether he’s playing tug, fetch or just good-old-fashioned whipping a toy around by himself, Maverick is always happy when there’s a game involved. And, you’ll be amazed at just how agile he can be! Toss a toy up in the air, and Maverick can get a solid few feet off the ground when he tries to catch it—which is pretty impressive for a dude built this solidly! Maverick is also a big fan of just about every human he’s ever met. He loves to greet friends and strangers alike with a good sniff and a handsome smile—and then show them just how great he is at responding to “sit”! He’s clearly a super intelligent and obedient pup and has lots of potential to learn even more—and of course, show off even more.
Working on: His outdoor skills! Our Adoption Center is located in a pretty busy Manhattan neighborhood, and Maverick tends to be a little nervous once he gets outside here. The loud sounds that come along with city living, like busses, are overwhelming for this handsome man, causing him to startle and stop. Things with wheels, like skateboards and bikes, also aren’t super fun for Maverick to be around. So, he would do wonderfully in a quieter area where there aren’t lots of crazy things and sounds, and where he can learn to remember to use the bathroom outside only! Maverick would also love to become fluent in speaking dog. He’s met a handful of other pups while at the ASPCA and can be a little stiff and awkward when first meeting them—but, after several minutes he relaxes enough to play. Because he isn’t great at doggy greetings, his new family should be happy to find other outlets for Maverick’s energy besides the dog park—like lots of playtime and quiet walks!
Dream home: Maverick loves to learn and would love a person who’s ready to help him keep studying up! Children and cats would be new for Maverick, but if you have kids or kitties our Matchmakers would be happy to speak about what that may look like! Because he isn’t a big fan of the hustle and bustle of busy Manhattan, a home in a low-traffic area would be perfect. If you’d like to make Maverick yours, please fill out our Dog Adoption Survey.
