“An easy-going, laid-back dog who doesn’t need a lot of space”—a direct quote from Hubert’s foster caregiver! An equal fan of play and long naps, this dreamboat has the perfect attitude for a New York City dog. He’s a lover and looking for a person who’s ready to love him back—and maybe provide him with some more training, too!

Big fan of: Belly rubs! Hubert is pretty much as friendly as they come and has no qualms about flipping over onto his back to ask anyone and everyone to scratch his tummy! A big tub of love, this guy wants nothing more than to be showered in affection. And once he’s up and on his feet, Hubert would be more than happy to go for a walk! Whether it’s a long jaunt or a short stroll, Hubert loves getting the chance to stretch his legs outside—especially if he gets to do it in a park! There’s nothing Hubert loves more than feeling the sun on his back and the grass under his toes. He’s reported to even be able to run up to a mile with his people, so if you’re looking to go for a comfortable, quick jog, count Hubert in! Once he’s back inside, there’s only one thing Hubert wants to do—sleep! He “sleeps all day,” according to his foster caregiver—which is a pretty perfect trait for a New York City apartment dog. Hubert particularly loves napping in his crate—potentially because that’s where he keeps all his favorite toys—and even knows to go in it when told to “go to bed.”

Working on: Learning to enjoy alone time! Hubert’s been in two foster homes during his stay with the ASPCA. In the first, he was noted to bark and whine when left alone. But, in the second he’s been able to happily chew on a toy in solitude for a couple hours! Hubert’s adopter should be sure to provide him with lots of exercise before going out and leave him with lots of toys while they’re gone. Hubert would also love to brush up on his dog-to-dog skills! He does great with most female dogs, but isn’t a big fan of males—so, his adopter should find other exercise outlets for him besides the dog park and make sure to bring lots of yummy treats on walks to reward him when he sees another male dog. And, Hubert is working on learning to share his toys and remembering his manners at the vet, too. For all of the above, our Behavior team would be happy to share tricks and tips on how to set Hubert up for success!

Dream home: Hubert is looking for an adopter who can provide him the training he needs to become his best self! He would do best in a home with teens and up as the only dog—or, as the roommate to an adult, female dog! Hubert’s adopter should also be willing to continue his special medication and diet to help him control his food allergies—but trust us, it’s easy!
