No one knows a dog better than their family, and Duke’s previous family couldn’t say enough good things about him! Word for word, they wanted us to pass along that you shouldn’t let Duke’s size fool you—“he’s a couch/cuddle dog and a sucker for a nice belly rub.” An all-around wonderful pup, we think that Duke would make a great fit for many different types of families, so long as they’re willing to give him some exercise!

Big fan of: Having fun! Duke is a big, active guy and loves keeping himself stimulated—both mentally and physically. Whether he’s going for lots of long walks, on an outdoor adventure or on a trip to the dog park, if Duke has the opportunity to get moving, he’ll be more than excited! The only thing that may make it better is if his favorite people are nearby—and Duke’s not picky! This dude truly loves everyone. Pets and scratches are always appreciated by Duke, and he offers his gratitude with one of the most handsome smiles we’ve ever seen. And, Duke is smart as a whip! He’s reported to be housetrained and know sit, paw and down. His previous family also noted that they even trained him to hug!

Working on: Remembering to keep all four paws on the ground. Duke loves giving those aforementioned hugs, and sometimes he forgets that there are some people who wouldn’t like a dog hug or that it’s not always an appropriate time to give one. Duke can also get a little spooked by sudden, unexpected movements—like sweeping with a broom—and loud noises. Lots of yummy treats when Duke doesn’t jump up and when he sees or hears these things would go far with him!

Dream home: Duke is looking for an active adopter who can keep him busy with fun and exercise! We think he’d do great with another dog. Children and cats may be new for him, and our Matchmakers would be happy to speak about adding Duke to a family with kids or kitties. If you’re interested in adopting him, please fill out our Dog Adoption Survey.
