Look up “Anakin” in the dictionary and you won’t find a Star Wars reference—you’re more likely to find a definition along the lines of “the cuddliest boy ever!” Our pup Anakin absolutely adores giving and receiving love from his human friends, but he takes some time getting there. Anakin’s on the hunt for an adopter who can help him work through his nerves and show his fearless side around potential news buddies! Could that be you?
Big fan of: Beds! But not dog beds—human beds! To Anakin, there’s nothing better than sleeping in on a lazy Sunday morning, cuddled up to his favorite human, and being gently woken up by the sun peeking through the curtains. But, Anakin’s snuggles extend beyond the early-morning hours. Anakin can be nervous around strangers and takes his time warming up to them, but once you’re friends this boy showers you in cuddles and affection all throughout the day! When he isn’t busy showing you tons of love, Anakin enjoys spending time with other pups around his size and feeling the sunshine on his back during a nice walk. And, Anakin is reported to be housetrained!
Working on: His confidence around new people! Anakin barks when he’s nervous or uncomfortable, and this tends to be when meeting strangers or hearing noises where he can’t see the source, like people on the other side of a door. Anakin’s adopter should be aware of and ready to help him work through his nerves and tough-talk.
Dream home: Anakin is looking for an adopter who understands that he will need time to warm up to his new home. He would do best with kids ages 10 and up and may be able to live with a kitty with slow and proper introductions.
Adoption Ambassador
As part of our adoption program, some of our feline and canine friends have the opportunity to live in foster homes. This allows our Adoption Center and Foster teams to learn more about each animal’s individual personality and needs, while they are in a more comfortable living space, outside of the shelter setting. Through our foster program, we are able to offer adopters a clearer picture of how their new pet will adjust to life in a permanent home. The goal of the Adoption Ambassador program is for these foster animals to be adopted directly from their foster home.
If you are interested in meeting one of our Adoption Ambassador animals, please first call our Adoptions department at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4120 to make an appointment. Our team will provide you with more information.
