“A cat who absolutely goes bonkers for play with wand toys”—that’s how our Behavior team describes Samoa! It’s almost unbelievable that when we first met this girl she didn’t understand how to play with toys, so perhaps she’s making up for lost time. In addition to jumping after wand toys, Samoa loves scratching on her scratcher, batting around springs, gazing longingly out the window and curling up next to her human officemates to supervise them while they work.

Samoa tends to be nervous in new places and with new people—and it did take her quite a bit of time to settle into the shelter and show her social side. When it comes to getting attention from humans, Samoa still definitely prefers it on her terms and likely always will. Let Samoa take things at her own pace and allow her to come to you. Offer some play, too, and Samoa soon starts bunting your hands and asking for a couple of pets before moving onto her next adventure. Often, this consists of climbing and exploring high surfaces!

Samoa has a “let me come to you” attitude and is looking for an adopter who understands that she prefers attention on her terms and isn’t shy about letting you know when she’s had enough. Her adopter should also understand that she’ll need time and confinement to adjust to any new home. She may display some fear-based behaviors like hissing along the way—and that’s okay! We know that Samoa has previously lived with other cats but we’re not sure how they got along. If you’re interested in adopting Samoa as a friend for your current kitty, our Matchmakers would be happy to speak about proper cat-to-cat intros!

Please fill out our Cat Adoption Survey if you think Samoa may be the gal for you!
