Exciting News! 48 Bunnies Found Homes at Our NYC Adoption Event

December 14, 2015

Update: We are thrilled to share that 48 bunnies found loving homes at our rabbit adoption event on Saturday, which was held in New York City’s Union Square and in Central Park. The event, held in collaboration with Ani-Care Animal Hospital and the NYPD, marked a new start for these 48 bunnies, who were rescued by the ASPCA in January 2015. Three rabbits, named Rose, Ria and Rita, are still looking for a home and would love to be adopted together. Please contact Ani-Care Animal Hospital in Dallastown, Pennsylvania, if you are interested in providing this trio a home for the holidays.

Are You Considering Bringing Home a Furry Friend? Adopt a Bunny at Our NYC Rabbit Adoption Event This Saturday!

If you’ve thought about adding a furry friend to your family, now’s your chance! This Saturday, December 12, the ASPCA will sponsor rabbit adoption events at two New York City locations. Get the details here:

What: Ani-Care Animal Hospital Rabbit Adoption Event in partnership with the ASPCA and NYPD
When: Saturday, December 12, from noon to 4:00 P.M.
Location 1: Central Park Zoo Entrance: Grand Army Plaza and East Drive, steps away from the 5th Ave/59th St. subway stop
Location 2: Union Square: Between 14th Street and 15th Street, in front of Staples
More Info: The $25 adoption fee also includes a cage and water bottle for each rabbit. All rabbits have been spayed/neutered. Potential adopters should bring one government-issued photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, passport, military ID, or non-driver ID), proof of address and contact information for a personal reference. Adopters must be 21 or older.

These special rabbits have come a long way—in January 2015, the ASPCA and the NYPD teamed up to rescue and remove nearly 180 at-risk rabbits from a property in Brooklyn, New York. The rabbits, who were not spayed or neutered, were living in squalid conditions and many were suffering from multiple injuries and illnesses. After the rescue, the ASPCA examined and helped provide veterinary care for all of the seized bunnies.

St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, home to the ASPCA’s Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in Madison, New Jersey, has ownership of 77 of the rescued rabbits and Ani-Care Animal Hospital in Dallastown, Pennsylvania, has ownership of approximately 150 rabbits, some of whom gave birth after rescue. The bunnies are now happy, healthy and thriving.

If you’re in the New York City area and interested in providing a loving home to a rabbit in need, we hope to see you this Saturday! Not in NYC? Please visit our Adopt section to find pets in need of homes in your area.
