Sweet Maury Is Looking for a Family of His Own!

Maury

In 2016, Maury was one of 156 dogs rescued from an alleged dogfighting operation in eastern North Carolina. At the time of his rescue, Maury was just a puppy, and he was soon diagnosed with an autoimmune condition that will likely last throughout his lifetime. Though two-year-old Maury’s condition is manageable and he does well with daily medication, it’s factored into his journey toward a loving home. Maury is looking for that special someone in the Springfield, Illinois, area who can look beyond his special needs and see what a wonderful dog he truly is.

After his rescue, the ASPCA Field Investigations and Response team transported Maury to the Animal Protective League in Springfield, Illinois, where he’s been comfortably living in a foster home. In his foster home, Maury has made great progress with his manners and has shown himself to be quite the lovebug. Maury loves meeting new people and making new friends. According to his foster caregiver, he will quickly crawl into strangers’ laps and expect to be petted and showered with affection.

This social guy also loves to play with dog friends, but he’s learning to understand that not all dogs want to play like he does. Some of Maury’s favorite things include long walks, especially in the woods, where he can show off how nicely he walks on his leash. He also enjoys plenty of playtime with toys!

This smart boy is crate trained, and he is working very hard on his housetraining skills. With guidance and supervision, Maury will soon remember to only use the bathroom outside. Maury already knows “sit,” and “leave it,” and he understands when you tell him “no.”

Maury’s foster parents also believe that he would be good around children, though his interactions have been limited.

This friendly, fun-loving dog is looking for the right adopter. And since this month is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, it’s the perfect time to give a dog like Maury the chance he’s been waiting for. Could you be “the one” for Maury?

If you are interested in adopting Maury, email the Animal Protective League at [email protected], or call their foster coordinator, Shanon, at (217) 801-3298.
