ASPCA Honors Eric McCormack for Unyielding Dedication to Our Animal Friends

April 30 marks National Animal Advocacy Day, which honors people who stand up for animals in need and encourage others to help create meaningful and humane change across the country.

This year, we’re honoring actor, advocate, and pet parent Eric McCormack with the 2021 ASPCA Compassion Award for his longstanding support of the ASPCA’s mission and his overall commitment to animal welfare advocacy both in the U.S. and Canada.

Eric’s dedication to animals is close to his heart, as he and his family have welcomed many rescued pets into their home over the years.

“In the last twenty years, all five of our dogs and both our cats have been rescues, and the ASPCA has been an important part of that,” Eric tells us. “I’m really touched to receive this honor, and I encourage everyone to continue to support the ASPCA's tireless work on behalf of animals in need and all of us who love them."

Eric has become the face of many ASPCA legislative and public action campaigns, including our work to eradicate dogfighting and puppy mills, provide COVID-19 and disaster relief to pets and animal shelters, elevate farm animal welfare, and find safe and loving homes for homeless animals. His strong voice elevates these issues and encourages others to help at-risk animals by supporting this lifesaving work.

“For decades, Eric McCormack has been using his talents and influence to advance a wide range of animal welfare efforts, including rescuing dogs and cats personally. That compassionate commitment has inspired countless friends and fans to also step up and speak out for animals in need,” says Matt Bershadker, ASPCA president and CEO. “On behalf of the ASPCA and all of the vulnerable animals Eric has helped find safety and hope, we are thrilled to honor him with the ASPCA Compassion Award.”

Thank you, Eric, for a commitment and compassion that knows no bounds.
