ASPCA Assists with Suspected Dogfighting Case Involving Dozens of Dogs

At the request of Pennsylvania State Police, and with support from Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, the ASPCA is assisting with a suspected dogfighting case involving dozens of dogs, including puppies, removed from a property in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
Upon arrival on scene, law enforcement discovered dogfighting paraphernalia, including weighted collars, heavy chains, medication and treadmills. Some dogs were also observed with scarring and injuries consistent with dogfighting.

“The ASPCA is committed to working alongside law enforcement and other animal welfare agencies to bring dogfighting to an end by providing critical case support and consultation and caring for suspected victims through specialized behavioral and medical treatment,” said Teresa Ladner, Senior Director of Investigations for the ASPCA. “We are grateful to all agencies involved in this case, including Pennsylvania State Police and Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, for pursuing justice for these animals and ensuring they receive critical care."
We are supporting the transport of the animals to an ASPCA facility where they will receive medical and behavioral evaluations, care and enrichment. We are also assisting with evidence collection, legal and investigative assistance and forensic exams. Prior to their transport, the dogs were temporarily cared for at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
