Dr. Chip Saxton Surgical Suite
Dr. Melissa “Chip” Saxton graduated from Auburn University in 1978, with a BS in Animal and Dairy Science and a DVM in 1982. She practiced companion animal veterinary medicine, including associate veterinarian positions and practice ownership, from 1982 to 2006.
In 2006, she joined the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance (formerly Humane Alliance) as a staff veterinary surgeon and progressed into teaching roles, later serving as clinic medical director from 2008 to 2011. She was a member of the 2008 Spay and Neuter Task Force and was one of the 21 authors credited with the first published guidelines (in JAVMA) for high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter. She also became instrumental in designing the Veterinary Student Externship for Humane Alliance in 2009 and became medical director of that program until retiring in 2021.
We dedicate this suite to Dr. Chip Saxton in honor of her 15 years at the ASPCA, her commitment to the animals we serve and her contributions to the ASPCA Veterinary Student Externship.
