ASPCA Assists Wood County Humane Society with Rescue of Nearly 70 Animals, including Dogs and Birds, from Poor Conditions in Northern Ohio

RISINGSUN, OHIO —Yesterday, the ASPCA^® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals^®), at the request of the Wood County Humane Society, was on the ground in Northern Ohio rescuing nearly 20 dogs and approximately 50 birds in Wood County. The ASPCA, in collaboration with the Wood County Humane Society’s Humane Investigations Division, removed the inhumanely treated animals after they were found living in poor conditions. Dogs were being housed in unsanitary conditions without access to clean water and suffering from untreated medical issues and were transported to an ASPCA facility where they will receive forensic veterinary examinations, medical treatment, and behavioral care. The birds, who were also living in inhumane conditions, will be transported to Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna, Ohio for ongoing care. Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary also assisted the ASPCA with this response.

The ASPCA deploys nationally to assist local authorities in animal cruelty and neglect cases including animal fighting, hoarding, and puppy mills. It also provides local communities with resources including grant funding and training to effectively assist animals during cruelty and disaster situations.
