ASPCA Announces Arrest of Manhattan Woman for Severe Neglect of Pit Bull

NEW YORK, December 17, 2008—Last Sunday, December 14, Humane Law Enforcement agents of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) arrested Jennifer Vias of Manhattan for neglecting her one-year-old male pit bull.

An ASPCA Special Agent discovered an extremely thin and dirty male pit bull at Ms. Vias’ residence in October. The dog, renamed Lazarus, was transported to the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, where he was treated for starvation and neglect.

Vias, 26, was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty, and faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Lazarus was released to the ASPCA and is available for adoption.
