5 Easy Ways You Can Get Involved at Home

We know that during the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of us are struggling. And while we may not have all the answers, we know one thing—that we’re always stronger together. Animals across the country still need friends like you and taking meaningful action for animals is easier than you may think! In fact, here are five easy ways you can make a difference today:

1. Take to Social Media

Take to Social Media

Making a difference is really just a click or two away. You can use your social media channels to share content and information from your local shelter or rescues, such as need for supplies or adoptable animals’ profiles, to help them gain visibility and encourage others to help if they can.

You can also start a Facebook® fundraiser for your favorite charity, like the ASPCA, and raise critical funds for animals in need.

2. Consider Opening Your Heart and Home

Consider Opening Your Heart and Home

With many shelters and rescues closing or reducing operations, foster caregivers and adopters are needed now more than ever. If you’re experiencing a prolonged time at home and are able, please consider bringing in a furry friend or equine in need temporarily as a foster. Or maybe, now is the time to commit to your new BFF. Either way, you’re helping your local shelter and giving an animal a safe, loving space.

3. Become an Advocate for Animals

Become an Advocate for Animals

Thursday, April 30, is National Animal Advocacy Day! Join the ASPCA’s Legislative Engagement team that day at 2:00 PM ET for a live advocacy webinar that will break down the mystery of how a federal bill becomes a law in the U.S. Congress. Understanding the basics of the legislative process will allow you to become a stronger advocate for animals, even from your own home! You can register here.

You can also sign up for Advocacy Alerts to stay in the loop on future webinars and information on how you can help us fight for stronger animal welfare and protection laws.

4. Donate Needed Supplies or Funds

Donate Needed Supplies or Funds

Check in with your local animal rescues or shelter and see if they are requesting any donations such as towels, blankets or pet food and determine how you can safely help if possible. Additionally, you can donate critical supplies to the ASPCA through our AmazonSmile Charity Lists. We even have a dedicated Charity List to support our COVID-19 pet food distribution efforts. Or, similarly, if you’re buying your essentials or shopping through Amazon®, you can support animals and the ASPCA by shopping through AmazonSmile. Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchase total to the ASPCA when you visit smile.amazon.com/aspca.

5. Become an ASPCA Guardian

Become an ASPCA Guardian

Joining as an ASPCA Guardian is always the easiest way to make a difference year-round and helps us remain prepared for emergency situations like COVID-19. If you’re able, your monthly donation helps ensure that animals nationwide are protected no matter the situation.

However you choose to help, we thank you so much for your dedication to our nation’s animals and for all of the ways you show your support.
