ASPCA Responds to Animal Cruelty on the Web

Public asked to assist by contacting law enforcement officials.

NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Western Hemisphere and our mission is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.

We have received numerous complaints about a specific website hosting a short movie of a woman crushing a puppy with her high-heel shoe. We have had our in-house counsel review the site and unfortunately there's nothing legally we can do alone to shut this Internet site down. This is a first amendment issue.

With that said we have informed the FBI and the Justice Department and requested they work on this on our behalf.

Here’s what you can do to help:

1) Report the website to those organizations (FBI complaints are made through local offices http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm and DOJ complaints can be made through http://www.usdoj.gov/contact-us.html)

2) While we have reported this issue to the FBI and Justice Dept, we strongly suggest that you do as well! Together we can work to shut this site down! There is power in numbers!

Together we can work to eradicate this type of horrible behavior from being spread on the Internet. Thank you for taking the time to help us with our mission!
