ASPCA Announces Arrest of Bronx Man for Abandoning Sick Pit Bull Puppy

NEW YORK, August 1,2008-Humane Law Enforcement agents of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) arrested Russell Hobbs on July 25 for animal cruelty.

ASPCA Special Agent Peter Rivas arrested Hobbs, 32, of 2100 Harrison Avenue in the Bronx, for abandoning his sick eight-month-old pit bull puppy named Lucy on July 3. Lucy, who was critically ill with parvovirus, was abandoned on 91st Street outside an apartment building before being taken by a passerby to the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital. Despite attempts by veterinarians to save her, she died four days later on July 7.

Hobbs was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty and faces up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
