The Spirit of Giving: “Cat Friday” Adoption Event Breaks ASPCA Record

While countless Americans enjoyed Thanksgiving leftovers or took advantage of Black Friday shopping deals, scores of New Yorkers found the true spirit of the season at the ASPCA’s Annual “Cat Friday” Adoption Event.

The event—which took place on November 25 and offered fee-waived adoptions for all cats—began at 11:00 A.M. at our Upper East Side Adoption Center, and drew a “standing room only” crowd in the waiting area and a line around the block. More than 70 ASPCA volunteers joined our Adoptions staff for the exciting occasion, which led to a record-breaking 90 adoptions in one day!

If that weren’t exciting enough, 44 additional animals who weren’t yet ready to go home were put on hold for future adoptions, bringing the grand total to more than 130.

“Today we broke our own record for the largest number of adoptions completed at our Adoption Center in a single day,” beamed Gail Buchwald, Senior Vice President of the Adoption Center. “90 animals will be sleeping in homes tonight!”

We cannot fully express how much it means to us to see more people than ever open their homes to ASPCA animals in need. You can continue the spirit of the season by adopting an animal of your own, or by making a Giving Tuesday gift to the ASPCA today.
