This “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month,” You Can Make a Difference for Felines in Need

The summer forecast at the ASPCA is cats, cats and more cats! Wednesday, June 1, not only kicks off Adopt a Shelter Cat Month—it also marks the height of kitten season, which is the time of year when we see an increase in feline breeding. The ASPCA Animal Hospital and kitten nursery are preparing for a massive influx of homeless and newborn cats, while the ASPCA Adoption Center is hoping to find more loving homes for felines than ever before. If you’re looking to make a difference for cats during this critical time of year, here are some ways you can get involved:

  1. Fundraise. What better way to celebrate your love of cats than to host a fundraiser in their honor? With Team ASPCA, you can support our cause and spread awareness for animals through a virtual Adopt a Shelter Cat Month fundraiser celebration! When you raise $100 you can get a special gift from Team ASPCA. Plus, anyone who donates to your campaign in the month of June will receive a free limited edition Adopt a Shelter Cat Month sticker as our way of saying thanks! Visit Team ASPCA to get started today.
  2. Adopt. Kitten season creates a tremendous population explosion, and animal shelters around the country will soon be flooded with cats in need of a home. You can make a major difference this season by adopting a new feline friend. At the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City, we are waiving adoption fees for cats over three years old. Plus, each adopted cat will go home with a free toy mouse gift!  If you’re not in New York, you can use our handy database to find adoptable cats in your area.
  3. Come To Their Rescue. As part of the ASPCA’s 150th anniversary celebration, we kicked off a campaign to inspire the nation to take 150,000 actions for animals in just 150 days! If you adopt a cat, help a stray or donate your time to animals in need during Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, be sure to log your action for the chance win a $150,000 grand prize for your favorite shelter!
  4. Make a Gift. Kitten season is one of the most dangerous times of year for homeless cats and kittens. During this season, resources like food, money and space are stretched to the brink. The ASPCA is determined to make a difference, but your most generous donation today can support our efforts to curb kitten season and find a home for every animal. To help us save lives during kitten season and all year long, please consider making a gift to the ASPCA today.
