ASPCA Rescues 20 Dogs in NYPD Dog Fighting Bust

A sign on the door of the house reportedly read “Premises is perilous to life,” and it was not a joke or an exaggeration. When the ASPCA and the NYPD entered the Queens home on Thursday, July 31, what we found was horrific—and heartbreaking.

Multiple dogs, many of whom were emaciated, scarred, and wearing heavy chains, were found without access to food or water. A bloody treadmill—a tool used to train dogs for fighting—weighted harnesses, steroids, syringes and other dog fighting paraphernalia were found in the home. At least one dog had deep scratch marks raked across its face.

Uniformed NYPD patrol officers from the 113th Precinct responded immediately to a complaint of dog fighting, called the ASPCA helpline, and less than 24 hours later both the NYPD and ASPCA—with the assistance of NYPD’s newly appointed Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad—were able to mobilize resources. Siblings Addison Holder, 44, and Keisha Hall, 33, are currently facing charges of animal fighting, unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine and felony drug possession, and are each being held on $100,000 bail. A third defendant was arrested on Wednesday, August 6.

The ASPCA has taken custody of the 20 canine victims found in the home. They are now receiving food, water, enrichment and love—many for the first time in their lives.

“Organized dog fighting is a brutal form of animal abuse where dogs are exploited and forced to fight as their owners profit from their torture,” says Matthew Bershadker, President and CEO of the ASPCA. “Through our partnership, the ASPCA and the NYPD are determined to protect New York City’s animals from this form of cruelty and bring their abusers to justice.”

We are committed to helping these dogs heal, both physically and emotionally, but we need your support now more than ever. When you make a gift today, you will help provide these dogs with the urgent care they so desperately need, and you’ll help us continue to rescue victims of animal cruelty across the country.

These dogs and so many other animals deserve a chance at a better life. Please make a donation today.

I would like to start off by saying I am not a member of face book, and there are a lot of good people on face book. I met my friend the other day and she said to me I have to show you somthing very bad. She showed me a video on face book of a man in a back yard with three six foot walls and a big pit bull on a chain. This bad man had a cat on somthing like a leash and put the poor scared cat in front of the pitbull. It looked like to me this cat was not a ferrel cat and was a full grown as well. The guy was making the pitbull mad with the poor cat. The pitbull started attacking the cat. The cat made one attemped to get away but had NO CHANCE, and was attack again and again. This BASTARD post it on facebook because he knew he could be found. Well the next day I CALLED the FBI and told them what I saw. That night I could not sleep and I felt so sick, all I did was pray for that poor helpless cat. The FBI told me that my friend had to report that posting to facebook, you have to hit on the posting and report that to facebook and as well report it to web site. WWW.ic3.gov this web site takes complaints re: internet matters. So people PLEASE do this a.s.a.p. when you see something disturbing. I hope this man and his friend who was viedoed this curl act. Yes the cat was killed by the pitbull his body went from full to flat and limp in a matter of two or three minutes I would say. I hope I never see this again. God only knows how many times he did this or how much this goes on. The police,FBI, and the A.S.P.C.A. all have to get involved big time and shut these bums down. Please do not give the fight on this ans animal abuse. Please I begg you all. If something does not look right to you, call the police and keep calling until they come and do not leave that animal alone even if you have to folloe thes bad people. This has to STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud you guys because every time I hear/see of this, it makes my stomach turn. Could these people imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. How could anyone think of this is fun and games to see another living creature get mauled by another?

Gay Pawlak

Animal abusers don't give a crap about an animal like we do. We need Tough, Tough laws that have some teeth to them and make these abuser pay financially and in jail. They need to pay all the medical bill when a raid happens back to the Vet and ASPCA or HS or any shelter or rescue that takes them and gets them back to health. I have a good idea to stop all this, Congress pass some real tough laws to punish those that do this, hit them in their wallets, hit them will months in jail, and all those that attend a dog fight get the same punishment (not the usual punishment of community service and probabtion) but one that deters all this carnage.

Sandy C

Amen sister. Make the penalty so bad that they stop and consider what it will cost them in $$$ and time in jail. They don't and won't ever care about the poor animals but if they have to pay enough they might think twice.

Michelle

I completely agree. Why is it so hard to pass stricter laws to make these people seriously pay for torturing these dogs, not just a slap on the wrist.

Sherry

I agree. Unfortunately many of them wouldn't have enough money to pay for everything. I say subject them to the same treatment and living conditions.
