NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced that it awarded more than $17 million in the form of 1,661 grants to 1,039 unique organizations in 2012, a 31 percent increase in the number of grants awarded the previous year. Grantees included animal shelters and rescues, spay/neuter organizations, animal health clinics, law enforcement agencies and universities.

"The $17 million in grants is the most we have ever funded in a single year and was distributed to organizations in all 50 states," said Michael Barrett, vice president of grants management at the ASPCA.
