Pre-Adoption and Early-Age Sterilization
Many but by no means all of the unwanted and abandoned animals in this country find their way into the nation’s sheltering system. In most locations a majority of these animals are euthanized because not enough qualified individuals come to shelters when they want to acquire a pet and/or because shelters may not have the kind of pet they’re looking for. To decrease the number of animals coming into shelters, and thereby reduce euthanasia rates, the ASPCA supports the pre-adoption sterilization of all shelter animals, including early-age sterilization.
