Whatever the nature of your pet’s problem, we recommend that you first discuss it with your veterinarian to rule out possible medical causes.
The Process
Telephone us to arrange a housecall. We like the entire family to attend the consultation. Consultations for dog problems usually last about 2 1/2 to 3 hours; for cat problems it’s usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours. During your visit, we ask extensive questions about your pet so that we can understand the development of the problem. We do our best to get to know you and your pet. We invite you to explain what measures you have taken thus far to deal with the problem. In some cases, we may re-enact problem situations to observe your pet in action.
Once we arrive at a diagnosis, we outline and demonstrate a detailed treatment program. We try to offer a realistic time line so you can gauge your progress. Informative handouts and an individualized written report are provided to both you and your veterinarian. We will email or call you at regular intervals to provide support and you are welcome to ask questions of us via email or telephone. The one-time consultation fee includes follow-up support for 3 months of the initial visit.
The Treatment
Most problems can be resolved or significantly reduced within a few months. Our methods are based on sound scientific knowledge of behavior modification and animal behavior. We adhere to a strict code of ethics to ensure your pet receives humane, effective treatment. In most cases, treatment programs include recommendations on how to manage your pet safely and how to modify and train your pet to effect long-term changes in behavior. Occasionally, we will suggest a consultation with your veterinarian to incorporate drug therapy into the treatment program.
