NEW YORK-- The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced the launch of a new Employee Recognition Grant program called ASPCA Staffers' Choice, which allows the recipients of their various Employee Recognition Awards to select an animal shelter of their choice to receive a $500 grant in their honor.

"Each year, 96 ASPCA employees are recognized for their achievements, which means that we will be able to give an additional $48,000 to animal shelters in need through this new program," said Michael Barrett, senior director of grants management for the ASPCA. "We wouldn't be the organization we are today without the hard work and dedication of our employees. Giving them an opportunity to give back will inspire our team members to help save even more lives."

The ASPCA currently has the following Employee Recognition Awards for its staff:

  • Angel Award: Recognizes employees twice a year who've made outstanding contributions to the organization on behalf of animals
  • Phat Cat/Top Dawg: Recognizes one employee per month in the ASPCA Adoption Center and Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, respectively, for going above and beyond the call of duty in their positions
  • All Star: One employee per month from the 92nd Street Adoption Center is chosen, lottery style, from a box of "All Star" employee nominations for going above and beyond their job duties
  • Employee of the Month: Recognizes employees in facilities, Humane Law Enforcement and the Midwest office and rewards them for going above and beyond the call of duty with their daily tasks

All award recipients for the 2011 calendar year will receive a grant certificate with detailed instructions on how to nominate an animal shelter to receive the grant on their behalf. Once the award recipient chooses the receiving shelter, the ASPCA grants department will contact the shelter and complete the grant awarding process. Once the process is finalized, all ASPCA employees will be notified as to which organizations have received grants in honor of the award recipients.
