Helping animals see a brighter future.

Making a difference for horses

When it comes to cats and dogs, there are many safe places for people to relinquish and rehome pets. But larger animals require different resources to do so. Our goal is to connect the right horse with the right person so they can live the rest of their lives in dignity. Learn how we do it, and how you can help.

The right horse.
The right person.
A loving home.

The ASPCA increases equine adoption so that rescues and shelters can help every horse in need. Through our program, we work with industry and adoption partners across the country to provide horses with the veterinary and behavior care they need to thrive. Our partners are expert matchmakers who ensure loving homes and fulfilling partnerships for both horse and adopter.

Adoption groups who go through the process of becoming a program partner have reported a more than 51% average increase in their adoptions within the first year of partnership.

Simultaneous to our work with the equine welfare community, our program engages the public to bring awareness and interest to horse adoption. An ASPCA study estimated 1.2 million households—or approximately 2.3 million adults—in the U.S. have both the resources and desire to adopt an at-risk equine. Connecting these adopters with their right horse means lives transformed and lives saved.
