Join Us for Voices for Animals Day 2017!
Registration for California Voices for Animals Day has now closed. Couldn't make it? Join the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade to stay up-to-date on fun and informational events in your state!
California Voices for Animals Day will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. On Voices for Animals Day, animal advocates from across the state will gather in Sacramento to speak about priority legislation, including:
State Financed Housing/Pet Friendly Housing (A.B. 1137): This bill would make future Housing and Community Developed-financed housing developments pet-friendly, opening up thousands of new housing opportunities for families and their pets.
Predatory Lending/Puppy Leasing (A.B. 1491): This bill potects consumers from unscrupulous lending practices involving the highly emotional purchase of a pet and reduces the potential that the puppy, kitten or other animal will be relinquished due to financial circumstances.
False Advertising/Pet Sales (A.B. 1138): This bill would amend existing law to specify that sellers of pets are prohibited from making false or misleading representations regarding an animal that they advertise for sale.
This is a great chance to network with other animal advocates and learn how YOU can make a big difference for animals. The event will kick off with an adoption fair where attendees can meet adorable, adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues, and we'll provide event-goers with a boxed lunch.
For those of you who would like to meet with your legislators or are new to citizen lobbying, we’ll be presenting a brief overview of the bills we'll be discussing and tips for lobbying your representative at 1:00 P.M. in Room 127 of the Capitol to prepare you for your legislative meetings.
Laws pass only when legislators hear from their constituents, so your presence at this event will have a huge impact on California’s 2017 legislative session. We hope to see you there!
