SEPTEMBER 2016 | Kate & Rufus
Philanthropy since 2012
Nine-year-old Rufus had been adopted and returned two times before ending up at the ASPCA in 2013. Kate first met him in the office of a coworker, where he was living as part of our Office Foster program, which gives shy or under-socialized cats a chance to interact with people in a safe environment so they can be prepared for adoption.
After a few weeks of visiting Rufus during the day, Kate says, “I knew it was time to bring him home with me.” Twenty minutes after he arrived at her home in Brooklyn, Rufus ate a meal, took a self-guided tour and promptly fell asleep on her bed. He was clearly a happy cat.
These days, Rufus loves belly rubs, catnip and bird-watching, and although his chronic rhinitis makes him a loud snorer, Kate says, “I couldn’t ask for a better pal.”
