MAY 2016 | Liliana & Sadie
ASPCA Animal Hospital since 2011.
Five-year-old Sadie was brought to the ASPCA Animal Hospital in August 2011 after sustaining abuse that left her with significant injuries. She was in extreme pain and faced a long road to recovery, and she was also scared of people and defensive. Fortunately, Liliana saw past Sadie’s growling and into her big heart. “I knew she was a good dog that simply needed love and a whole lot of nursing care,” she says. It didn’t take long for Sadie to begin to trust Liliana—she’d even approach the front of her cage when Liliana walked in to treat her.
Their bond was strong, and after months of care that included two surgeries, physical therapy and other treatments, Sadie was medically stable but needed a little more behavioral help. Liliana agreed to bring Sadie into her home as a foster on Valentine’s Day, 2012, and they have been inseparable ever since. “Sadie has opened up and proven that despite what she endured in her past, she is resilient and will only look forward,” Liliana says. “Her strength and newfound trust are a testament to how amazing and strong the animals we work with truly are.”
