Alyssa & Portabella
Media & Communications since 2013
Growing up in a house full of animal lovers, Alyssa was never without a pet until she began living on her own for the first time. It didn’t take long before she realized that she needed an animal in her life to make her feel at home, so in April 2012, she took a trip to a shelter in Hudson, NY.
After spending hours at the shelter getting a sense of the different “feline-alities,” Alyssa noticed a grey cat in the corner with an unfortunate name: Thing One. Thing One had lived with an older gentleman who had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, and she was relinquished because he could no longer properly care for her.
Only ten months old at the time, the kitty desperately needed a new home and a new name—so Alyssa adopted her and gave her both! “As it turns out, Portabella couldn’t be a better fit,” she tells us. “She is so playful and loves being the center of attention. And she’s quite the pro at fetch.”
