NEW YORK—The ASPCA^® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals^®) today announced that Laura Lanza, ASPCA Community Initiatives Director, will speak about the ASPCA's partnership with Shelby County at the upcoming "MORE Tales from the Trips" fundraiser for Shelby Humane Society, this Friday, August 27. The event will benefit the shelter's transport program, which arranges for the transfer of adoptable animals from overpopulated Shelby County to receiving shelters in other regions of the country where they are more likely to be adopted in a timely manner.

"This transport program is truly remarkable," said Lanza. "Since its inception four years ago, 3,400 dogs have reached new homes thousands of miles away in New England. Shelby Humane should be proud of the collaboration that has given so many animals a second chance. It is our hope that this program continues to thrive."

The fundraiser, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. CT at the YMCA Hargis Retreat in Chelsea, Ala., will celebrate the shelter's miles and milestones, recognize the dedicated drivers, and raise funds for the program. Laura Lanza will also present a $50,000 donation on behalf of the ASPCA to Shelby Humane Society for the purchase of a new transport vehicle.
