NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced that it has been selected to participate in the Pepsi Refresh Project, a campaign launched in January that will award up to $1.3 million each month in grants to individuals, businesses, and non-profits whose ideas have a positive impact in communities around the United States.

The ASPCA has applied for a $250,000 grant which, if secured, would support the ASPCA's Field Investigations and Response team by enabling the ASPCA to purchase, equip, and operate a new Animal Rescue Transport Vehicle that rescues animals from cruelty and neglect.  Refresh Grants will be awarded to organizations with ideas receiving the greatest number of votes, and only two ideas will be awarded a grant within the $250,000 category.

"A few simple clicks of the mouse will help us continue to rescue suffering animals that need our help," said Todd Hendricks, Senior Vice President of Development for the ASPCA. "What's so inspiring about this project is the public – our supporters and animal advocates everywhere – has the power to choose where this vital funding will go, just by going online and voting."

The ASPCA's Field Investigations and Response team is a group of specially trained staff who assist animal victims of both natural and man-made disasters, ranging from hurricanes and wildfires to puppy mill raids and other large-scale animal cruelty cases. The team works tirelessly with other emergency responders, humane associations and shelters to rescue animals from life-threatening situations and provide them with the essential care.
