WHO: The ASPCA’s® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) Mobile Adoption Center is bringing shelter pets and potential pet parents together by travelling to communities throughout New York City in June.
“The ASPCA Mobile Adoption Center gives New Yorkers a great opportunity to adopt a companion dog or cat right in their own neighborhood,” says Diane Wilkerson, Senior Manager of the ASPCA’s volunteer program and overseer of the Mobile Adoption Center program. “It’s also a great way for the public to learn more about our adoptions program and other services the ASPCA offers.”
WHAT: The ASPCA Mobile Adoption program features dogs, cats, and kittens for same-day adoption. All the animals are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and are up-to-date on vaccinations. Plus, the adopter receives a free cat carrier or leash, care information, and a certificate for one free follow-up medical exam (valued up to $250) within the first two weeks of the adoption at the ASPCA's Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital.
WHEN: The 26-foot long custom-built van travels to various New York City locations four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday.
HOW: In order to adopt, potential adopters should bring with them: two forms of identification, one with their current address (such as a utility bill) and one photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, or work ID). The adopter may also be asked to provide one personal reference, reachable by phone. For dog adopters, the ASPCA strongly encourages all members of the household to come to the van to meet the pet. If the adopter already has a dog at home, it's advisable to bring him or her along as well, so that ASPCA staff can help find the dog best suited to the resident dog. Adoption fees range from $75 to $200.
