Historic Champion Demonstrates Older Dogs’ Potential
February 11, 2009
NEW YORK—The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today congratulated Ch Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee (“Stump”), a 10-year-old Sussex Spaniel and winner of the 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The historic champion, the oldest dog to win the title “Best-in-Show,” has offset a flurry of interest in the animal community regarding the great potential of older dogs.
“We hope that Stump’s win demonstrates that no matter how old a dog may be, it has the ability to be a winner,” says ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres. “Shelters across the country are full of an untold number of older dogs in need of caring homes; their age doesn’t preclude them from being loving, faithful companions.”
“Ava, Precious, Storm, and Tiger are just a few of the older dogs we have here at the ASPCA Adoption Center that would make a wonderful addition to any family,” says Gail Buchwald, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City. “In fact, we believe that potential adopters will be delighted with how much love these dogs can provide.”
February 9 and 10 marked the 133rd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which showcased the world’s top dogs in a competition that emphasizes the beauty and refinement that are our canines.
