NEW YORK, February 6, 2007—Fifteen minutes of fame may cut it for humans, but our animal companions would put Hollywood’s red carpet to shame when it comes to being comfortable in the spotlight. As a spinoff of their recent partnership, the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Squidoo.com have joined forces to create the “ASPCA Squidoo Lens Contest,” where pet parents everywhere are invited to set up their very own free Web page (or “lens”), to pay homage to their pet BFFs at www.squidoo.com/aspca/hq. Funny stories, cute pictures and cool tricks are par for the course, and every month the top three lens “crafters” will be featured on the ASPCA’s Web site, www.aspca.org.

“We are extremely excited about our partnership with Squidoo,” said Jo Sullivan, senior vice president, Development & Communications for the ASPCA. “Every time someone builds a lens on Squidoo it could mean a donation to a charitable organization, and we really appreciate being part of that network. What’s more important to us, though, is the opportunity to spread the message of our life-saving work to new audiences every day.”

Out of all the lenses created every month, the top three winners will be featured on the ASPCA Web site. “We’ve already crossed the 500 lens mark for January,” said Sullivan, “and we can’t wait to see what our loyal public comes up with.” Winners of the January-February contest will soon receive their 15 minutes of fame on the ASPCA Web site, and the deadline for February-March submissions is March 2. To enter, please visit www.squidoo.com/aspca/hq.

“We’re thrilled that animal lovers and ASPCA supporters can contribute to such a worthy cause without having to dig into their pockets,” said Squidoo.com Founder Seth Godin. “Of all the 70,000 handbuilt web pages on Squidoo, pets is one of our most popular categories. People just love showing off their pets.”
